Introduction to Mexico
Officially the United Mexican States covers almost 2 million square kilometres and is the fifth largest countries in the Americas by area and the thirteenth largest independent nation in the world. With an estimated population of over 113 million, it is the eleventh most populous country and the most populous Spanish-speaking country. Mexico is a federation comprising thirthy-one states and a Federal Distict, the capital city. Mexico ranks sixth in the world and first in the Americas by number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites (31).
The Asociación de Scouts de México, Asociación Civil (ASMAC, Scout Association of Mexico, Civil Association) is the national Scouting association of Mexico. Scouting was founded in Mexico in 1920 and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement on August 26, 1926. It was registered to Mexican civil authorities on 24 February 1943. ASMAC has 33,509 members (as of 2011). The ASMAC headquarters are located in Mexico City.
The Honours Programme Event was the first multiple day Event of the World Scout Foundation in the Americas outside Canada and the United States!
