15’000 Messengers of Peace!
During the 22nd World Scout Jamboree the promotion of the Messenger of Peace Programme went into a completely new phase!
After 2 hectic days of preparations the official Messenger of Peace tent was ready at the day of the Opening Ceremony. A copy of the outdoor photo exhibition regarding the MoP programme in the Centre of Stockholm was made availble in this tent. And on 28th July the 'recruitment' of Messengers of Peace started. All participants were challenged to sign up by handing in a project suitable for the MoP programme. After a busy start the following days saw record after record broken in terms of amount of sign ups.
It became very clear that the MoP programme got adopted by Scouts all over the world and that the enthusiasme for the programme was bigger than anticipated! Although sign-up is still taking place as this article is written it is safe to say that we have already 15'000 Projects signed up. Just imagine if every Project involves a patrol or a whole troop of Scouts - do the maths!!
Yesterday evening, while The King of Sweden was on the Jamboree site, 14 new Messengers of Peace (Scouts from 14 different countries) were presented to His Majesty and were personally congratulated with the initiative taken en leadership expressed.
A truly memorable moment for them and all involved in the promotion of the project!
