Youth Leadership Award for the Environment

It’s unprecedented to be awarding a certificate to 40 million people – 40 million Scouts! It’s even more impressive when you realize that the Youth Leadership Award for the Environment is also being honored to an alumni of 500 million leaders, Messengers of Peace and all Scouts the world over.

On Tuesday morning, Corinne Lepage, Advisor to French President François Hollande on the Rights of Humanity and Adam Koniuszewski, Chief Operating Officer of Green Cross International presented the award to six Scout ambassadors on behalf of every Scout around the world for their continuous actions to make our global environment a better place to live in.

Madam Lepage then challenged Scouts to continue taking action in their environment and to leave the world a better than they found it.

Josie Zan, a Scouting ambassador from Germany took the opportunity to say “Thank you very much, merci beaucoup, danke schön and asante sana! On behalf of this global movement of 40 million Scouts, whether it be a 6 year old cub Scout in Bangkok clearing litter, the Scouts in Ecuador being the drivers behind the plantation of 800 000 trees in just one day - which broke a world record by the way, or the Scouts of Sudan re-integrating child soldiers through environment projects.Thank you! This is the first time 40 million certificates have been handed out. It's a record and proof that you can count on us to create a better world!”

It’s proof that the Scouts collective global impact is astonishing. Scouts around the world are embracing this recognition of thanks by downloading their certificate.
