700 million hours of service in communities
Led by their Scouting values and inspired by their desire to help, the network of 40 million Scouts around the world have today reached an incredible milestone - 700 million hours of service with 6 million projects, having a positive impact on hundreds of thousands of communities.
And the 700 million hours are only the ones captured officially through our official MoP channel - scout.org. This platform is a space for Scouts to showcase their projects, and is the place for Scouts to connect, share and inspire one another - peer to peer, Scout to Scout.
Each of the 6 million projects is tailored to suit the need in the local community - be it a Syrian Scout distributing relief goods to elderly neighbours in the streets of Homs, or a Nepali Scout saving lives after the earthquake in 2015 - and when we combine these vital local actions it's clear that Scouts, as Messengers of Peace, are changing the world!
In fact right now the Scouts of Haiti are serving their community in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. This community action is bringing much needed water, food and support to a devastated country. It may sound heroic, and it is, but it's also normal for a Scout, as a Messenger of Peace, to want to help their neighbour in a time of need.
