Georgian Scouts drive support for at-risk community groups
Since the onset of the COVID-19 virus, the Georgian Scouts in Samegrelo Region have been actively involved in supporting their vulnerable communities including via the partnership they have with the Red Cross Society of Georgia. Together, they have distributed information brochures to the population detailing how to take preventive measures. Scouts have also trained volunteers to support the awareness efforts, including local government officials in the region.
The Scouts, alongside Red Cross volunteers, are helping to distribute food and hygiene items to at-risk citizen groups. They are also taking care of self-isolating citizens and delivering donated products to their homes, while always observing social distancing measures. So far, they have helped more than 50 families through a challenge supported by local businesses that helped raise donations of food and hygiene items.
Despite inadequate resources, the Scouts are actively helping citizens of Samegrelo with great enthusiasm and Scout readiness. They are committed to contributing in whatever way they can to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and they are planning more activities alongside their projects for the upcoming summer Scout season.
Since the outbreak of Covid-19, Scouts around the world have been responding to the needs of their communities on an individual and group level, leading awareness-raising, deliveries of essential items, sanitation and hygiene support and much more.
