Scouts of Nepal - Scout Aid report
The Scouts of Nepal are proud to present their update document here, please take the time to read it and share it with your friends, families and fellow Scouts.
On the 25th April 2016 it will be the one-year anniversary of the earthquake in Kathmandu, Nepal. The devastation rocked the country to its core, and communities there are still rehabilitating themselves.
Immediately after the quake, the Scouts went out in to their cities, towns and villages to help find survivors in the rubble and administer first aid. Now, a year on, Scouts are still working hard in the major rehabilitation and disaster preparedness efforts underway. Thanks to the support of hundreds of donors, Scouts, Baden-Powell Fellows, philanthropists and friends from around the world, over USD $150,000 was collected and with this support the Scouts of Nepal were able to provide food, water and shelter in the days and weeks immediately after the disaster, and are now in the middle of training hundreds of their Scouts on their specially tailored ‘Disaster Management Training Programme’.
One such training course took place on Saturday in Kathmandu where 300 Scouts developed their skills in shelter provision and ‘needs assessment’. The training, developed in partnership with the International Red Cross/Red Crescent, means that Scouts in Nepal are well trained and well equipped to serve their community in the future if and when the need arises.
Poignantly the training began as earthquake stories from Scouts in Japan and Ecuador broke on social media and scout.org. Among the fun and laughter on the course, there was a very serious realisation of why they were all there.
The thoughts of Scouts in Nepal are with their peers in Japan and Ecuador.
